Terps Host Ohio State Saturday and Sunday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland baseball team will look to win its third consecutive Big Ten series when Ohio State visits Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium this weekend. The Terps captured road series wins against Illinois and Northwestern, marking the first time Maryland had won back-to-back road series since 2006. If Maryland wins its series this weekend, it will be the first time since 2003 Maryland has won three consecutive conference series.
  • Maryland leads the all-time series with Ohio State 7-4-1, with the teams first meeting in 1936. The Terps have won both Big Ten series against the Buckeyes since entering the conference, winning five of six games.
  • Maryland's Friday ace Hunter Parsons has logged four consecutive starts of seven innings or more, three of those starts being eight inning appearances. Parsons leads the Big Ten in innings pitched (64.0) and is tied for first in wins (6). He ranks in the top-15 in ERA (2.95, 13th), opposing batting average (.211, 11th) and strikeouts (49, 15th).
  • Senior right-hander John Murphy is starting to climb up Maryland's all-time saves list. Murphy now has 12 for his career which is tied for fifth with Ryan Selmer (2015-17). Murphy's seven saves this season is the eighth most in a single season in school history.
  • Freshman Maxwell Costes earned his third Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor this week after slashing .412/.583/.941 in the Terps' 4-1 week last week. Costes leads all Big Ten freshman with 30 RBIs and is 10th overall.
  • Senior Taylor Wright has been a doubles machine in his senior season and is tied for the Big Ten lead with 14 two-baggers this season. The number puts Wright 38th in the country. The Terps rank second in the conference with 74 doubles as a team.
  • Sophomore outfielder Randy Bednar has had a breakout second season. Bednar ranks third in the Big Ten with 34 RBIs and 11th with 27 runs scored. He has 74 total bases and seven home runs, which both top the Terps. Maryland ranks third in the conference with 37 home runs.
