COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland track and field team split squads competed at both the UVA Challenge in Charlottesville, Va. and the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton, N.J. The Terps now have just two meets – next week travelling to the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. and hosting the Kehoe Twilight Meet the week after – before postseason competition.
Greg Thompson has set himself up exceptionally well for a deep postseason run in the discus, while other Terps continue to set personal bests and season bests on their way to Big Ten and NCAA postseason meets.
Highlights
Greg Thompson won his fourth discus event of the outdoor season, continuing his dominance in this event. Thompson won the invitational section of the discus at the UVA Challenge with a throw of 60.92m (199'10").
Leah Blackall continued toexcel in the triple jump, finishing third in the women's triple jump invite by jumping a new personal-best 12.89m (42'3.50"). Blackall is currently #3 on the Maryland All-Time list and continues to move up in the NCAA East Region rankings with this mark.
Dashawn Morris earned a second-place performance in the men's 400m invitational, sprinting the 400m in 46.55.
Kameron Jones barely missed a podium finish, taking fourth with a 46.96, while
Aaron Robinson ran a seventh-place 47.58.Â
Colin Rowe set a new personal best in the 400m dash as well with a time of 48.43.
Xahria Santiago sprinted her way to a third place finish in the women's 400m hurdles invitational running 59.31. Teammate
Thaila Cooper finished inside the top 10 with a season-best seventh-place 1:00.62.
Alice Barnsdale took sixth in the women's hammer throw invitational with a throw of 59.99m (196'10"). Barnsdale has stayed steady as a top performer in this event.
At the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton, N.J.,
Brittany Lang set a new personal best and finished second in the women's 5k with a time of 16:48.87. This moves Lang into the #4 spot on the all-time list at Maryland.Â
Kathryn Gearhart took 12th in the 5k finishing in a season best time of 17:12.45.
Alexandra Lucki ran in the elite section of the 1500m and crossed the line in 4:18.81 amongst a strong field of competitors.Â
Mackenzie Morgan ran a season best time in the 800m event posting a finishing time of 2:11.65.
Women
In the women's 100m dash,
Jaida Smith finished 10
th with a 12.07 and
Bria Mack took 13
th with a 12.14.
In the women's 200m dash,
Bria Mack placed ninth with a time of 24.42,
Jaida Smith and
Imani Gray finished side by side in 24.93 and 25.04 respectively.
In the women's 100m hurdles,
Nadia Hackett ran 14.15 and
Thaila Cooper crossed the line in 14.41.
In the women's 400m invitational,
Cheyenne Jones placed sixth with a 55.64 and
Venida Fagan finished eighth with a 55.87.
Mikella Lefebvre-Oatis cleared 1.65m in the invitational high jump competition.
In the women's throws,
Bayli Smith threw 50.38m in the Hammer and
Lillian Hill tossed the javelin 38.49m.
Caroline Augelli ran the 10k for the first time in her career and posted a time of 39:47.04 at Princeton.
Men
In the men's 100m dash,
Cameron Vereen ran a season best time of 10.79 and
AJ Ruffin sprinted to the line in 11.07.
Patrick Hanley ran his first 10k of the season finishing the 25 lap race in a time of 30:28.92.
In the jumps, Andrew Alfano long jumped 6.88m,
Nate Moore finished seventh in the triple jump by clearing 14.41m, and
Carlos Vanzego took eighth in the triple jump by leaping 14.29m.
At Princeton,
William Jones earned himself a top-10 performance and won his heat with a seventh-place 3:57.30 in the men's 1500m run.
Aaron Barlev ran the 5k for the first time in his collegiate career and posted a time of 14:49.93.
