
Smith, Shoultz and Moore Score on Second Day of B1G Outdoors

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Jewel Smith earned herself a podium finish and put points on the board for the Terps with a third-place performance in the long jump, clearing 6.17m on her first attempt (20'3'). In the men's high jump, Samuel Shoultz had his season best performance in a heated high jump competition. The senior earned a fourth place finish clearing the bar at 2.20m (7'2 ½").
Nate Moore set back-to-back personal best performances in the high jump, with a final mark of 2.11m (6'11"), to place seventh in the standings. Through two days of competition at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, Maryland's women's team has put seven points on the board while the men have put six on the board. Day three will provide several additional scoring opportunities.
In the men's 400m preliminaries, Kameron Jones and Dashawn Morris qualified for the finals, which will take place Sunday. Jones ran the third-fastest time and won his heat with a 46.62, while Morris qualified with a 47.07. Aaron Robinson finished 16th in the 400m prelims with a 48.17.
In the women's 100m hurdles, Nadia Hackett narrowly missed a spot in the finals, but earned herself a top-10 finish, placing ninth with a time of 14.07. Gwendolyn Zeckowski set a new personal-best in the pole vault with a 3.72m (12'2 ½") clearance.
In the women's 100m, freshman Jaida Smith finished in 12.07 and Bria Mack ran 12.21. In the women's 400m dash, Venida Fagan placed 12th with a 55.58, Cheyenne Jones ran 56.46, and Destiny Ward finished in 57.26. In the women's 800m, Mackenzie Morgan ran to a 2:12.70 finish.
In the 800m preliminaries, Hazem Miawad ran a collegiate-best 1:52.81, while Colin Rowe finished in 1:55.75. In the 3000m steeplechase, Aaron Barlev ended his senior season strong, finishing 14th with a 9:23.58. In the men's long jump, Andrew Alfano finished 12th with a 6.92m clearance. In the men's 100m, Cameron Vereen finished in 16th running 10.82.
Maryland will conclude competition at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships tomorrow, with Terps competing in a variety of events. Greg Thompson looks to continue his dominance in the discus before NCAA competition begins and both men's and women's 4x400m relay squads look to leave their marks at B1G Outdoors.
