COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Michigan topped the Maryland baseball team, 10-7, at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium Friday night.
What to Know
- The Wolverines jumped on Terps' right-hander Hunter Parsons to go up 5-0 after two innings. Michigan then led 10-1 after six and a half innings before the Terps scored six answered runs and put the tying run on base in the bottom of the eighth.
- Parsons was able to settle down after the first two innings and put up three consecutive zeros before exiting. Michigan starter Karl Kauffmann tied Parsons for the Big Ten wins lead with eight, throwing seven innings.
- Maryland's first run came in the sixth when Taylor Wright hit his fourth home run of the season, an opposite field shot to left center field.
- After Michigan plated five in the top of the seventh, the Terps responded with three in the bottom half. Sophomore Chris Alleyne hit a three-run homer to left field, his fifth of the season, to get the deficit to 10-4.
- The Terps continued the rally in the eighth. Randy Bednar walked and then came into score on a Caleb Walls double to left center. Justin Vought hit a double of his own on the next pitch to plate Walls.
- Three consecutive walks issued to Pineiro, Cowles and Alleyne plated another run. With the bases loaded, AJ Lee grounded into a fielder's choice to end the inning.
- Lefty Drew Wilden tossed scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth to keep the Terps in striking distance. In the ninth, Bednar walked to begin the inning, but a double play and Maxwell Costes strikeout ended the game.
Other Stuff
- AJ Lee has now reached in 21 consecutive games, which is the longest streak for Terp this season. He ended the 2017 season on a 24-game reached base streak. Lee's 11-game hitting streak came to an end.
- Alleyne tied a career high with four RBIs. The sophomore has now hit three of his home runs from the left side of the plate and two from the right side.
- Adam Barnhart, who is dealing with muscular dystrophy, threw the ceremonial first pitch for tonight's game. Barnhart made a big time muscle and then tossed a strike. Much love Adam, you're a warrior.
- Maryland's players selected 12 professors who were honored pregame as the team's most valuable professors. Shout out to Shoji Malone, who was the most valuable professor for 11 Terps!
