COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland baseball team continues its push towards the Big Ten Tournament when Michigan comes to College Park this weekend. The Terps are currently tied for fifth in the conference with an 8-7 record. Michigan leads the Big Ten with an 11-3 mark.
- Michigan leads the all-time series with Maryland, 14-7. The Terps and Wolverines first clashed in 1935, with Maryland winning 5-4.
- Senior shortstop AJ Lee has reached base in 20 consecutive games and is riding an 11-game hitting streak. Both are the longest streaks by a Terp this season. Over that 20-game span, Lee is slashing .385/.490/.526 with 20 runs scored and 19 RBIs.
- Senior right-hander John Murphy is starting to climb up Maryland's all-time saves list. Murphy now has 14 for his career which puts him fifth all-time in school history. With another save, Murphy would sit in a tie for third (Charles Devereux/Dan Gentzler). Murphy's nine saves this season is the fourth most in a single season in school history. Kevin Mooney and Brett Cecil are the only two other Terps to reach the nine-save mark in a season.
- Sophomore outfielder Randy Bednar has had a breakout second season. Bednar is excelling in Big Ten play, ranking first in runs scored (17) and doubles (10), second in RBIs (16), fourth in slugging (.677) and fifth in average (.354). Bednar's 18 total doubles is tied with Taylor Wright for the Big Ten lead.
- Wright and Bednar's mark of 18 doubles ranks 14th in the country this season. Wright is also playing well in Big Ten games. He holds a .322 average and .420 on-base percentage in conference games. The Terps lead the Big Ten with 96 doubles as a team.
- Freshman Maxwell Costes has earned three Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors this season, and leads all Big Ten freshmen with 36 RBIs, 14 doubles and eight home runs.
- Hunter Parsons leads the Big Ten with eight wins, a mark that is third all-time in a season in Maryland history. With one more win, Parsons will have sole possession of third with nine and will join Mike Shawaryn as the only hurler in Terps history to win nine or more games.
