Poarch Dominates WPSL Action

OKLAHOMA CITY – Maryland women's soccer rising sophomore Alyssa Poarch has caused quite a stir in the Women's Premier Soccer League this summer, leading the league in both points (37) and goals (16). It's a remarkable feat considering the league has 119 teams littered across the country.

The Middleton, Del., native was sensational last weekend, scoring seven goals in a span of 24 hours for Coastal Atlantic FC (CAFC) Ospreys en route to being named Goal 5 Player of the Week.

Poarch bagged three goals in a 7-3 victory over OPSA Magic, before adding four goals the following day in a 8-1 defeat of Old Dominion Cesena USA.

Poarch's dominance of the league is evident, as she leads the league's points race by 16 points over Rachael Dorwart (21) and leads the goals race by six.

CAFC Ospreys finished the regular season on a four-match win streak to win the Colonial Division with a 5-1-2 record.

Poarch started 12 games and appeared in 18 as a redshirt freshman in 2018, ranking second on the Terps with six points.

The 2019 Maryland women's soccer season is set to begin on Thurs., Aug. 22, when it hosts Georgia Southern at Ludwig Field in College Park.
