COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The fourth-ranked Maryland field hockey team (4-1) will host No. 6 Virginia (4-0), James Madison (2-2), American (1-3) and Towson over the weekend in the 23rd annual Terrapin Invitational in College Park. The Terps will play the Cavaliers Friday at  5 p.m. and the Dukes Sunday at noon.
•  Admission is free for all four games.
•  For Friday's games in College Park, Lot 11b, the lot directly next to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex, will open for fan parking at 4 p.m. Parking will be open in lot 11b all day Sunday. Fans planning to arrive prior to 4:00 p.m. Friday should use this link to find metered visitor parking. Fans should please read and follow all posted parking signs in the surrounding lots.
•  All four games will be streamed on BTN Plus. Fans around the world can watch with their BTN Plus subscriptions. Live stats will also be available for all four games.

RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW
•  Maryland won at Towson, 5-0, Wednesday afternoon. The Terps scored three goals in the opening 5:25 of the match. Hannah Bond, Madison Maguire, Linda Cobano, Emma DeBerdine and Jen Bleakney all scored for the Terrapins. Maryland took 27 shots and did not give up a shot or a penalty corner.
•  Bleakney and Maguire lead Maryland with three goals each. Nine total Terps have found the cage.
• The Terrapins return eight of 11 starters from last year, including the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in Keus and the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in Bibi Donraadt. Keus also earned NFHCA First Team All-America honors.
•  The Terps went 22-3 in 2018, advancing to their second straight NCAA Championship game. They won the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles as well.
SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
•    No. 6 Virginia is 4-0 on the season after beating UMass Lowell, 4-1 and No. 14 Ohio State, 2-1 last week.
•    Makayla Gallen is leading the Cavaliers with four goals this season.
•    Maryland leads the series, 41-21-2 over Virginia and has won four of the last five matchups.
•  Last year, the Terrapins fell at Virginia, 3-1, on Oct. 21, 2018.
SCOUTING THE DUKES
•    James Madison is 2-2 on the season. The Dukes fell to No. 14 Ohio State, 3-0, and beat Georgetown, 3-2 last week.
•    Miranda Rigg is leading the Dukes with three goals this season.
•    Maryland leads the series, 23-5-3 over James Madison and has won 10 straight matchups since 1996.
•  The Dukes and the Terps haven't played since 2006. Maryland won 4-2 in College Park on Sept. 17, 2006.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
•    Towson is 0-4 so far this year after falling to Colgate, 4-3, in overtime Sunday and the Terps, 5-0, Wednesday.
•    Georgia Beachley is leading the Tigers with two goals through four games this year.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
•    American is 1-3 so far this season. The Eagles fell to Delaware, 4-0, and Old Dominion, 1-0, in double overtime last week.
•    Hannah Moser is leading American with two goals so far this year.

• Maryland was tabbed as the No. 4 team in the country in the latest Penn Monto/Division I Coaches  poll released Sept. 10.

The Terrapins joined the Big Ten conference in 2014, after playing in the ACC for 31 years. Big Ten field hockey is the largest conference in the history of the sport in the NCAA with nine teams - Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers and Maryland.
• The Terps are 129-39-3 (.762) all-time against Big Ten opponents.
• Head coach Missy Meharg is 111-19-1 (.912) vs. Big Ten opponents in her 32 years at the helm of the Maryland field hockey program.
• Since joining the league in 2014, the Terps are 46-8 in conference play.
• The Terrapins are 44-3 (.936) vs. Big Ten teams at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
• The Terrapins won the first Big Ten title for the University of Maryland with a 4-1 win over No. 14 Iowa on Nov. 1, 2014 in College Park.
HOME SWEET HOME
Since its opening in 2003, the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has provided the Maryland hockey program a huge home field advantage.
• The Terps are 180-20 (.900) all-time at the Complex.
• Maryland won 38 straight games at the Complex from Oct.11, 2008 through Oct. 14, 2011. The streak ended with a 5-2 loss to then-No. 1 Old Dominion.
• The Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has played home to 28 of Maryland's NCAA Tournament games and has played host to three Final Fours (2007, 2010, 2014). The Terrapins are 25-3 in those games and won the 2010 national title on their home field.
PACK THE HOUSE
• The Maryland field hockey team has increasingly attracted more and more fans to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex season after season. The Terrapins have led the nation in attendance in five of the last eight years.
• An NCAA-record crowd of 2,381 came out to watch as Maryland beat North Carolina 3-2 in double overtime for the 2010 national championship at the Complex.
THREE TERPSÂ EARN PRESEASON BIG TEN HONORS
• Graduate student Jen Bleakney, senior Madison Maguire and junior Bodil Keus earned Big Ten Preseason Honors to start the season. The full list, click HERE.
• Keus was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year last season and earned NFHCA First Team All-America honors. She scored nine goals with seven assists and three defensive saves in 2018.
• Maguire notched seven goals, including an overtime game winner over No. 5 Connecticut to send the Terps to their 19th Final Four. She picked up 12 assists on the year and earned NFHCA All-Mid Atlantic Region honors..
• Bleakney comes to the Terrapins from Syracuse, where she tallied 11 goals and six assists in three seasons.
CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
• Bleakney and Keus were voted team co-captains by their peers.
OVERTIME IS TERPS TIME
During Missy Meharg's tenure, the Terrapins have become one of the nation's most dangerous teams in overtime.
• The Terps are 67-25 (.728) all-time in games that went to overtime or penalty strokes.
• In Meharg's tenure, the Terps are 56-21 (.727) in overtime or penalty strokes games.
STAFF UPDATES
• The Terrapins welcome two new assistant staff members and former Terrapins in 2019. Janessa Pope will serve as the team's director of operations and Sarah Holliday is a student assistant coach.
 • Pope played for the Terrapins from 2009-2012 and won two NCAA Championships in her career. She graduated with her degree in hearing and speech sciences and works at a local elementary school as a speech language pathologist for preschoolers.
 • Holliday played for the Terrapins from 2015-2018 and started in 74 career games. She notched 261 career saves. She is finishing her degree in psychology.
TERPS ON NATIONAL TEAMS
• Thirteen Terrapins, former and present, are currently on USA Field Hockey's national team rosters.
 • Jill (Witmer) Funk competed with Team USA in the Rio Olympics along with former volunteer assistant coach Stefanie Fee. Former Terrapin Megan Frazer is on the Irish National Team.
 • Recent grads Linnea Gonzales, Anna Dessoye and Alyssa Parker are on the U.S. Women's National Team. The won bronze in the Pan American games this summer.
 • Seniors Kelee Lepage, Madison Maguire and recent grad Sabrina Rhodes are on the U.S. Developmental Squad.
 • Current Terps Brooke DeBerdine and Kyler Greenwalt are on the U.S. Under-21 Team. Emma DeBerdine, Belle Bressler and Riley Donnelly are on the U.S. U-19 Team.
