COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's basketball team looks to bounce back from its first loss of the season as it welcomes No. 21 Rutgers to open Big Ten Conference action Monday, Dec. 14. It marks the Terps' second consecutive game against a KenPom top-30 program, and its first game of the season against a ranked opponent.

RUTGERS STORYLINES
- Sophomore Hakim Hart is in the midst of a breakout season, most notably scoring a career-high 32 points against Saint Peter's on Dec. 4. Prior to that game, Hart had totaled just 45 points in 21 career games. He became the first Terp with at least 30 points and four steals in a game since John Gilchrist had 30 points and four steals against NC State in the 2004 ACC Tournament. Hart is currently second on the team averaging 12.0 points/g in 21.2 minutes of action.

Maryland has posted a .529 shooting percentage through its first five games, ranking 19th nationally and second in the Big Ten. Sophomore Donta Scott made 3-of-4 3-point attempts against Clemson, and is 8-of-13 (.615) beyond the arc this season.

Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon is in his 10th season at the helm for the Terrapins, having led the program to more than 20 wins in five of the last six seasons. Turgeon's .652 winning percentage in Big Ten Conference play ranks sixth all-time among coaches with at least 50 wins, trailing only Bo Ryan, Bob Knight, Tom Izzo and Thad Matta.
- The Terrapins are 5-1 overall in Big Ten openers since joining the league in 2014-15, with the lone loss coming to Purdue in the 2017-18 season. In last year's opener against Illinois, Maryland memorably completed a 15-point comeback, including four points from Anthony Cowan Jr. in the last 20 seconds, to win 59-58.

Maryland is 11-4 all-time against Rutgers in a series that dates back to 1940. The Terrapins are 6-1 at home against the Scarlet Knights, with the lone loss coming in a 50-45 defeat on Feb. 19, 1941.
