Cowan Garners Third Big Ten Player of the Week Honor

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland senior guard Anthony Cowan Jr. was named the Big Ten Player of the Week after cementing another page in his legacy after another 2-0 week for the first place Terps.

This is Cowan's third Big Ten Player of the Week award, after the All-American candidate averaged 18.5 points, 6.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.5 rebounds in wins over Nebraska and Michigan State.

Cowan is the first Terrapin to garner three Big Ten Player of the Week honors in the same season. Additionally, he's the first Maryland player to be named the conference player of the week three times in the same season since Greivis Vasquez was a four-time ACC POTW honoree during the 2009-10 season.

Cowan posted his first double-double (13pts/10asts) since his sophomore season vs. Nebraska, as Maryland secured a 72-70 win over the Cornhuskers to remain unbeaten (14-0) at home.

The Bowie, Md. native followed that up with a performance for the ages on the road against Michigan State, scoring 24 points in a dramatic come from behind win. Down seven points with three minutes to play, Cowan scored the final 11 points of a 14-0 run (3 3-ptrs) to guide the Terps to the win.

Cowan and the rest of his Maryland teammates are back in action Tuesday, February 18 when the Terps host Northwestern at XFINITY Center.
