Anthony Cowan Jr. and
Jalen Smith have both been named to the John R. Wooden Award Late Season Top-20 List, which recognizes the nation's most outstanding player.
Maryland, Kansas and Duke are the only teams in the country with multiple players on the top-20 list.
Cowan has been listed on the top-50 preseason and top-25 midseason Wooden Award lists, while Smith is making his debut on the Wooden list after his sensational play the last few weeks.
Cowan, who has twice been named the Big Ten Player of the Week this season, currently leads the Terps with 16.2 points/g, 4.3 assists/g and 34.1 minutes/g. He leads the Big Ten in free throws made (107) and ranks fifth in points/g. He also ranks fifth in Maryland history in assists (528), 12th in points (1716) and second in free throws made (514).
Cowan has reached double-figures in 18 of 21 games this season, including a pair of 30-point efforts this season.
Smith, who recently earned Big Ten Player of the Week, has been superb over his last five games, averaging 21.3 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.4 blocks. Smith has been particularly impressive, in conference action, averaging 17.7 points and 9.9 rebounds, while shooting 53-percent from beyond the arc.
Smith is currently second in the Big Ten (eighth nationally) in double-doubles, third in blocked shots/g (2.3) and third in field goal percentage (.540).
Cowan and the Terps return to action Tuesday when they host Rutgers at 7:00 pm on Fox Sports 1.
