COLLEGE PARK, Md. --
Chris Alleyne had a historic night at the plate, going 6-for-6, and Maryland's offense was firing on all cylinders en route to a 13-4 victory in the series-opener vs. Bryant. The Terps crushed four homers in Maryland's best offensive performance of the season - including two from freshman
Bobby Zmarzlak - while
Sean Fisher earned his third win of the year on the mound.
What to Know
- Alleyne became just the fifth player in Maryland history to record a six-hit game. The feat was last accomplished on March 14, 1995, when Ron Hartman tallied six hits vs. UMBC.
- Bubba's stat line is pretty ridiculous. 6-for-6, 4 runs scored, 1 double, 1 home run, 1 RBI, 1 stolen base. Oh my!
- In his last at-bat, Alleyne mashed a solo shot over the right field fence. Not a bad way to tie the record.
- Bubba wasn't the only one that raked. Randy Bednar, Maxwell Costes, and Bobby Zmarzlak also recorded multi-hit games.
- Let's talk about Zmarzlak. In just his fourth start of his career, he hit two home runs and drove in seven runs. Half of Maryland's runs were driven in by the freshman. The last time a Maryland player had seven RBIs in a game was when Kevin Biondic drove in seven vs. Ball State on March 4, 2018. The highly-touted recruit went yard in his first at-bat, before crushing a grand slam to straightaway center in his second at-bat of the afternoon.Â
- Bednar went 2-for-5 at the plate with a double, a walk, and two runs scored. Costes went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two runs driven in. The sophomore was walked three times, two of those times intentionally.
- Benjamin Cowles hit his third homer of the season, tying for the team lead with Costes. His solo shot in the eighth was to straightaway center over the 20' fence.
- Bryant's right fielder Shane Kelly was the Bulldogs' most effective hitter. Kelly went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs driven in.
- Sean Fisher was solid in his fourth start of the season. The junior left-hander tossed six innings, allowing just three runs on five hits. He also struck out a career-high eight batters and walked just two.
- Connor Staine threw two innings of scoreless relief. Staine has become one of the most effective arms out of the bullpen, making a team-high five appearances and pitching a team-high nine innings out of the pen.
- Chris Chaney came in for the ninth inning and worked a clean inning to close out the win.
