COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Five Terrapins were named to the 2020 Inside Lacrosse Media All-American team as announced by the organization Wednesday.
Logan Wisnauskas (Third Team), Jared Bernhardt (HM), Anthony DeMaio (HM), Roman Puglise (HM) and Brett Makar (HM) were all recognized on the 2020 team.
Despite a shortened season due to the cancelation of all NCAA spring sports because of the COVID-19 outbreak, Maryland finished 5-1 while positioning itself as one of the top teams in the country.
Wisnauskas was on pace for one of the most productive seasons in Maryland history, posting a team-high 36 points on 24 goals and 12 assists. Wisnauskas's 6.00 points per game average ranked fourth in the country, while also ranking fourth in goals per game (4.00). He kicked off the year with a career-best six goals against High Point, before tying his career-high with eight points in the team's final game against Albany.
Bernhardt was also positioned for another record-breaking season, as he finished with 29 points on 20 goals and nine assists. The Longwood, Fla. native tallied at least four points and two goals in every game this season, while also causing four turnovers and scooping 12 ground balls. Bernhardt was on pace to break the schools all-time goals record (155), finishing 2020 with 131 in his career.
DeMaio was once again a steady presence in the midfield, finishing third on the team in points (21) and second in assists (11). His highlight moment came against Richmond on February 8, as he finished with five points including the game-winning goal in overtime to push the Terps to a 14-13 victory.
Puglise proved to be one of the toughest short stick defensive midfielders in the country in 2020, scooping 21 ground balls and causing two turnovers while scoring three goals on the year. Puglise earned Inside Lacrosse All-American honors for the second time in his career after receiving an honorable mention nod last year.
Makar was on his way to a breakout sophomore campaign as Maryland's top defenseman, starting in all six games at close defense. The Yorktown Heights, N.Y. native caused four turnovers and picked up 10 ground balls on the year, while drawing the opposing team's best offensive player each game.
