INDIANA STORYLINES

DONTA from deep
  • Sophomore Donta Scott set an XFINITY Center record Thursday evening when he connected on all five 3-point attempts. He joined Justin Jackson (2017 at Minnesota) as the only Terps in the Mark Turgeon era to go 5-for-5 from beyond the arc. Over his last eight games, Scott is averaging 14.9 points and shooting 59-percent from 3-point range.

SERIES HISTORY
  • Monday's matchup marks Maryland's first return trip to Indiana since its dramatic 77-76 victory over the Hoosiers, when it scored seven straight points in the final 1:25 to claim the victory. Jalen Smith scored four of the seven points, with the other three coming on a massive 3-pointer by Aaron Wiggins. It was Maryland's first-ever win at Assembly Hall. The postgame celebration was then dampened by the passing of Kobe Bryant, as news circulated late in the second half. Maryland has defeated Indiana in 6-of-9 meetings since joining the Big Ten in 2014-15, including three straight meetings. The most notable meeting was in 2002, however, when the Terrapins defeated the Hoosiers, 64-52, to claim their first and only NCAA Championship.

It was the most free throw attempts in a game for a Terrapin since Melo Trimble attempted 15 against Northwestern in 2017. Ayala, who averaged just 8.6 points through his first two seasons, is currently averaging a team-high 14.8 points/g.
