Terps Dominate James Madison, 3-0

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- A relentless offensive attack and smothering defense lifted No. 8 Maryland (9-4) to a dominant shutout win over James Madison, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.

A first-half goal from Margot Lawn gave the Terps a lead they would never relinquish. Second-half goals from Taylor Mason and Bibi Donraadt put the game out of reach, with Maryland's suffocating defense and lengthy time of possession allowing the Dukes (7-5) just three shots on goal in 60 minutes of play.

Lawn sent a shot over the goal line from the near post for the first goal of the game 2:09 into the second quarter.

Mason and Donraadt found the goal line in the first 5:22 of the third quarter, just 3:00 apart. Mason finished off a long run and pass into the circle from Emma DeBerdine. Donraadt deflected in a shot by Rose off a penalty corner for the 3-0 lead.

Missy Meharg's Take
"When you play James Madison, it is all about energy. You have got to be able to combat that energy. [JMU head coach] Christy Morgan is probably one of the most spiritually, high-driven, competitive coaches that we play against. We knew their goalie was good. She was at Northwestern for four years prior and is at JMU now, so we weren't surprised by those stats. Couldn't be more proud of our team, getting on the board against a great team."
