Blumberg Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- After a storybook Senior Day performance, Maryland center back Ryan Blumberg was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

The Sydney, Australia native scored his first career goal in the 49th minute to snap Indiana 700 plus minute run without allowing a goal. He helped the Terps keep a clean sheet against the Hoosiers, allowing Maryland to secure the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament.

Blumberg's DPOTW honor is Maryland's first of the season. Ben Bender has earned two Offensive Player of the Week honors.
