COLLEGE PARK, MD — Ten Terps scored and four scored in double-figures as No. 21 Maryland defeated Fayetteville State, 89-40, on Friday night at XFINITY Center. Fifteen Terps in total saw action with 10 seeing double-digit minutes.
Freshman
Julian Reese led the team with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor. Reese also pulled down five rebounds and had one block.
Fatts Russell scored 10 points and had two assists to go along with two steals.
Qudus Wahab (12 points),
Hakim Hart (10 points),
Eric Ayala (nine points), and
Donta Scott (six points) all started alongside of Russell for Head Coach
Mark Turgeon.
Maryland shot 55 percent from the floor including nine three-pointers while limiting the Broncos to just 25 percent shooting.
Breaking Down The Win
- The Terps held a 43-23 lead at the half thanks to 10 points and three rebounds from Reese and seven points and two steals from Russell.
- Maryland opened the second half on a 12-2 run to extend their lead to 30 with just over 15 minutes remaining.
- Another extended scoring run (13-2) late in the second half ballooned the lead even further.
Terp Debuts
- Reese, Russell, Wahab, Ian Martinez, Pavlo Dziuba, Xavier Green, Ike Cornish, Simon Wright, Brett Karkus, and Arnaud Revaz all made their Maryland debuts and combined for 53 points, 24 rebounds, and eight assists.
