
Maryland to Host NCAA First and Second Rounds

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland field hockey squad (13-5) earned its 33rd overall NCAA Tournament bid Sunday night. The Terrapins will take on Virginia (12-8) Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the NCAA First Round at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in College Park.
Penn State, the No. 4 overall seed, (14-5) will take on Syracuse (13-5) Friday at noon, with the winning teams advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

The Terrapins own a record of 64-24 (.727) in the NCAA Tournament and a record of 60-23 (.723) under head coach Missy Meharg.
The Terrapins have advanced to 19 Final Fours and have won eight NCAA titles (1987, 1993, 1999, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011).
Maryland dropped a tight, one-goal match to Penn State, 3-2, Thursday in the Big Ten Quarterfinals. The Terrapins led twice, but a fourth quarter goal by the Nittany Lions was the difference. Senior Bibi Donraadt was named to the All-Big Ten Tournament Team.
Six Big Ten teams earned NCAA Tournament bids, including Rutgers, Michigan, Iowa, Northwestern, Penn State and Maryland, more than any conference in the country.
