COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland women's tennis team had it's season opener against Ohio State Friday, falling 2-5 against the Buckeyes.

The Terps are back in action against Penn State on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 2:00 p.m. in the Junior Tennis Champions Center.

- Sophomore No. 89 Ayana Akli defeated her first ranked opponent of the season No. 78 Irina Cantos Siemers in straight sets
- Akli and senior Eva Alexandrova remain undefeated (3-0) at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots

- DOUBLES
- No. 1: Akli and Minorka Miranda were defeated by Isabelle Boulais and Kolie Allen 23-6
- No. 2: Alexandrova and Adela Josefova were down 2-5 at the time of the doubles point against Lucia Marzal and Lisa Hofbauer
- No. 3: Zoe Kulkarni and Ebony Sampson fell to Luna Dormet and Madeline Atway 0-6
- SINGLES
- No. 1: No. 89 Akli defeated No. 78 Siemers in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3
- No. 2: Alexandrova battled against Hofbauer, eventually proving victorious in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-2
- No. 3: Miranda was defeated by Boulais after a tie breaker in the second set 3-6, 6-7(2)
- No. 4: Kulkarni fell to Allen 6-7(3), 1-6
- No. 5: Josefova was defeated by Dormet after a competitive first set, 5-7, 0-6
- No. 6: Sampson fell to Marzal 0-6, 1-6
