WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Nicole Kevdzija scored in the 102nd minute to seal a 3-2 overtime win for Purdue (1-1) over Maryland (0-1-1) Thursday evening. Despite the Terps leading into the final minute, a late goal from the Boilermakers' Chloe Woodbeck forced OT.
Purdue wasted no time getting on the score sheet, as Sarah Griffith posted a goal just 30 seconds into the game played indoors at Mollenkopf Athletic Center.
The Terps answered back in the 19th minute, as Loren Sefcik delivered the equalizer off an assist from Mikayla Dayes. It was the second career goal for the Sefcik, and her second goal in three games for UMD dating back to Maryland's final game of the 2019 season.
Maryland would rack up five shots in the half after withstanding an early Purdue barrage, but went into the half tied at one.
UMD relied on sturdy goalkeeping play from Nicole Kwoczka in the second half, as she relived Kennedy Tolson who made four stops in the opening 45 minutes of play. Kwoczka saved the first three shots that came on cage, setting the stage for Maryland to pull ahead in the 81st minute.
Keyera Wynn came through for the Terps in crunch time, scoring her first of the season off a corner kick. Hope Lewandoski set the table for the Wynn, who tallied her third career goal. It appeared Maryland would lock up the win in regulation, but Woodbek's goal in the closing seconds for Purdue tied the game at two.
Maryland will be back in action this weekend on Sunday, February 28 when the Terps face Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on BTN Plus.
