Maryland Splits Series with Wisconsin

LEESBURG, Fla. - Maryland softball split its series against Wisconsin on Sunday to go 3-3 in the season opener. The Terps finished the weekend with four games going into extra innings, with five being decided by one run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Maryland will have a week off before heading back down to Florida to play three games against Purdue and Iowa, March 11-14.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- GAME 1
- Freshman Jaeda McFarland started the day off for the Terps with a double to left field early in the top of the first, but couldn't make it back around
- The Badgers threatened with a runner in the bottom of the first, but senior pitcher Jennifer Brann struck out their next three batters to send the Terps to the box
- Maryland threatened with runners on second and third in the top of the second, but couldn't get home. Wisconsin then went down in order.
- Wisconsin took the lead in the bottom of the third with a two-out RBI double to put the Badgers up 1-0
- McFarland got her third hit of the day to set Maryland up at first and second in the top of the fifth, but couldn't score
- The Badgers held the Terps in the top of the seventh to secure the win
- GAME 2
- Maryland and Wisconsin battled it out in each inning to go scoreless for seven straight
- The Terps went to an extra inning with the Badgers, their fourth in the last sixth games
- Wisconsin nabbed the first run of the game on an error by Maryland in the top of the eighth
- Junior Haley Ellefson singled up the middle to bring fellow junior Ruby Butler home to tie the game at 1 a piece
- Senior Regan Kerr came into the box for Maryland and walked, loading the bases
- Freshman Jaeda McFarland sealed the deal for the Terps with a single to left field, advancing sophomore Trinity Schlotterbeck to home to put Maryland up 2-1 over Wisconsin
Maryland will have a week off before heading back down to Florida to play three games against Purdue and Iowa, March 11-14.
