BALTIMORE, Md. -- Hannah Leubecker unleashed a bouncer from just inside the eight meter in overtime to win the game for the No. 9 Maryland women's lacrosse team, defeating Johns Hopkins, 9-8 on Friday evening.
Leubecker's winner was her fourth goal of the day to lead the Maryland offense that had six different goal scorers on the day. The Terrapin defense and dominant draw effort (13-6) helped lead Maryland to the win to move to 3-1 on the season and in Big Ten play.
Lizzie Colson was all over the field in the win, tying her career-high with five groundballs to go with six draw controls and two caused turnovers. Colson's six draw controls tie her with Karri Ellen-Johnson for third all-time in program history.
Maryland led 4-2 in the first half before Hopkins scored the final three goals of the half and led 8-6 in the second half before Hopkins tied it at eight to send it into overtime. Shaylan Ahearn caused turnover at the end of regulation.
The Terps move to 3-1 on the season and 19-0 all-time against Johns Hopkins with the win. Maryland will next be in action next week at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex for games vs. Ohio State on Thursday, March 18 and Saturday, March 20.
