Kerr Notches Homer in Game 2 Against Iowa

LEESBURG, Fla. -  Maryland softball split its first two games with Iowa on Saturday, highlighted by a season-first homer from junior Regan Kerr.

GAME 1
  • Game 1 was battle of the defense between the Terps and Hawkeyes, with neither team being able to get on the board in regular play
  • Maryland went into extra innings with Iowa, ultimately being defeated 1-0 in the bottom of the 8th after the Hawkeyes stole home
GAME 2
  • In the top of the fourth, Iowa put up two runs to put them in a 2-0 lead
  • Maryland was quick to respond in the following inning, putting on two runs of their own to tie things up
    • After a single from Micaela Abbatine, Kerr was able to make it back around to put the Terps within one run
    • Michaela Jones followed by notching an easy triple to right field and sending Abbatine home to tie things at 2 a piece
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Kerr sent one over the fence and put the Terps up 3-2 heading into the seventh; marking her and the Terps first homerun of the 2021 season
  • Senior pitcher Jennifer Brann struck out Iowa's last batter in the top of the seventh to seal the deal for Maryland
