COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- After scoring 10 goals to lead the Maryland women's lacrosse team to a pair of wins over Michigan, attacker Hannah Leubecker was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Leubecker led a Maryland team that scored 29 goals and swept No. 17 Michigan this past weekend, totaling 10 goals, good for 34-percent of all the Terps goals, over the two games. The sophomore starred in Friday's 17-13 win, scoring seven goals on only nine shots, and connecting on her first seven shots of the game.
The Forest Hill, Md. native scored four goals in the first half of Friday's contest, including two within two minutes of each other to end the first half and give Maryland a 10-6 advantage at the break and went on a 4-1 run herself to end the first half and begin the second half, scoring four goals in a row for the Terps, two to end the first half and two to start the second half, all with in eight minutes of each other.
Leubecker backed up her Friday night performance with a hat-trick in Sunday's 12-9 win, tying the game at four with 7:30 left in the first half and then breaking a 5-5 tie to give Maryland their first lead of the day with three minutes left in the first half. Her two goals were key in a 7-1 Maryland run to end the first half to take control.
The sophomore leads the Terps with 12 goals through three games and stands fourth in the Big Ten with four goals per game.
This is the first Big Ten honoree of Leubecker's career and the first for any Terp this season.
Maryland will be back in action next Friday, March 12 at 3:00 p.m. at Johns Hopkins.
