SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The second-seeded Maryland women's basketball team (24-2) will take on No. 15-seeded Mount St. Mary's (17-6) Monday at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN. The winner of Monday's game will advance to face the winner of a matchup between No. 7-seeded Alabama (16-9) and No. 10-seeded North Carolina (13-10).

What's UP

Maryland won its third straight Big Ten regular season title and sixth in seven years since joining the league earlier this month. The Terps won their second straight Big Ten Tournament championship and fifth in seven years.
Brenda Frese was named ESPN National Coach of the Year Friday. She was named AP National Coach of the Year in 2002 and has been named Big Ten Coach of the Year four times, including this year.
Ashley Owusu and Diamond Miller earned All-Big Ten First Team honors and Katie Benzan was named to the Second Team. Chloe Bibby and Mimi Collins earned Honorable Mention honors, Angel Reese was named to the All-Freshman Team and Channise Lewis earned a Sportsmanship Award.
Ashley Owusu was named an AP Third Team All-American and Katie Benzan earned Honorable Mention honors.
Faith Masonius and Diamond Miller earned All-Big Ten Academic honors this week.
The Terrapins are averaging 91.3 points per game coming into the NCAA Tournament, which is leading the country and the highest in program history. The NCAA D1 scoring record is 96.7 points per game by Providence in 1991. Maryland is the only team in the country with six scoring in double figures.
Coming into the NCAA Tournament, Maryland is leading the nation in three-point FG percentage (.407) and in assist/turnover ratio (1.69), is No. 3 in field goal percentage (.493), No. 5 in assists (20.4), No. 6 in scoring margin (+21.0) and No. 8 in FT percentage (.790). Katie Benzan leads the country in 3-point FG percentage (.506) and Owusu is fourth in assists (151).
The Terrapins are on pace to top program records in three-point FG percentage (.403 in 1988-89), FT percentage (.758 in 2014-15) and assists per game (19.8 in 2016-17). Owusu and Miller are on pace to top the record for points averaged by a sophomore in program history (17.8 by Kaila Charles in 2017-18).

50 seasons of excellence

The University of Maryland women's basketball program will celebrate its 50th varsity season in 2020-21, and will honor the program's rich tradition and history throughout the year. Maryland played its first full varsity season in 1971-72, under the leadership of pioneer Dottie McKnight. During its storied history, the program has won 1,053 games, amassed 44 winning seasons, won 24 conference championships, made 34 postseason appearances and captured the 2006 National Championship

Head coach Brenda Frese is in her 19th season in College Park. She's led the Terrapins to a record of 510-130 (.797), 14 conference titles, 16 NCAA Tournament appearances in 18 postseasons, three Final Fours, six Elite Eights, six Sweet Sixteens and the 2006 NCAA Championship.
With the Terrapins' win at Nebraska on Feb. 14, Brenda Frese picked up win No. 500 at Maryland, which makes her the winningest coach in Maryland basketball history. Hall of Fame women's basketball head coach Chris Weller won 499 games in her 27 seasons (1975-02).

Maryland is one of the most consistent winning programs in the country. The Terrapins have been ranked in 211 straight Associated Press polls, dating back to the preseason poll of the 2010-11 season. That mark is behind just Baylor (336 weeks) and Connecticut (526 weeks).
Maryland has been ranked for 262 weeks in the last 17 seasons, with 203 of those weeks in the AP top 10 and 90 in the AP top 5.

This is Maryland's 28th NCAA Tournament appearances. The Terps are 46-26 (.639) all-time in the NCAA Tournament. In their 15 appearances under head coach Brenda Frese, the Terrapins are 34-14 (.708). Frese has led the Terrapins to eight Sweet Sixteens, six Elite Eights, three Final Fours and the 2006 NCAA Championship.
The Terps have earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last 11 seasons, but the 2020 NCAA Tournament was canceled due to the pandemic. The Terrapins have earned a No. 2 seed eight times (82, 92, 93, 06, 07, 12, 16, 21).
The Terps are 16-3 all-time in First Round Games and 15-0 in First Round games under Frese.
Maryland is 8-0 vs. Mount St. Mary's all-time. Last time, the Terps won 97-57 on Dec. 6, 2017.
