UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Brindi Griffin had her second-straight game with four points, scoring three goals and tallying an assist but the No. 9 Maryland women's lacrosse team fell behind early and were never able to catch up, falling to No. 16 Penn State, 16-9, on Sunday afternoon.
After Griffin found
Catie May for the Terps first goal of the day at 25:38, Penn State rattled off six straight goals to take command of the game. Griffin scored two late in the first half to cut the deficit to four, but Penn State responded with two of their own before the half.
In the second half,
Hannah Leubecker scored two goals and
Julia Hoffman notched her first of the season on a free position.
Lizzie Colson had yet another game leading the Terps in groundballs, recording four while also causing a turnover.Â
Maryland won the draw control battle 19-8 with
Shaylan Ahearn winning a career-best 10 and Leubecker winning four.
The Terps drop to 6-4 on the season and will be back in action for the home finale against Johns Hopkins on Wednesday, April 14 at 2:30 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
