Maryland Track & Field Set New Records in Columbus

Columbus, Ohio – The Maryland Outdoor track and field team completed the final day of competition at the Jesse Owens Invitational hosted by the Ohio State Buckeyes. 

Women's Notes
  •  Bria Mack and Jaida Smith both competed in the 100m dash. Mack (11.61s) and Smith (11.73s) both advanced to the finals. In the finals Mack's time of 11.60s led to a podium finish and moved her name up to No. 4 all time in the Maryland record-books. Smith finished with a time of 11.79s. 
  • Nadia Hackett competed in the 100m hurdle prelims with a time of 14.02s to advance to the finals where she finished in fourth with a time of 14.00s. 
  • In the 1500m, Anna Coffin set a PR of 4:39.25, followed by teammates Amanda Eliker (4:47.94) and Courtney Mann (4:56.77). 
  • Leah Blackall placed third on the podium in the triple jump finishing with a mark of 12.46m. 
  • Julia Reicin finished third in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 11:31.98. 
  • Kami Joi Hickson placed fifth in the 800m with a time of 2:12.11.
  • Seun Sule and Ashley Germain competed in the long jump.
  • Angel Nkwonta threw for a final mark of 14.98m in the shot put.
  • Madison Depry cleared the 1.60m mark in the high jump.
 
Men's Notes
  • Jeff Kline moved his name up in the Maryland record books earning a new PR of 18.58m in the shot put open championships. This moves Kline up to No. 4 all-time. 
  • Hayden Tobias took first place in the shot put open setting a new PR of 17.82m. This bumps Tobias up to No. 8 all-time in Maryland history. 
  • In the men's 100m dash prelims, Joe Ewan and Kamari Trotz finished back-to-back with times of 10.60s and 10.68s, both PRs for the sophomore-freshman combo. Both Ewan and Trotz qualified for the final where Trotz ran a new PR of 10.67s, besting himself twice in one day, followed by Ewan's 10.70s. 
  • Hayden Tobias and Jeff Kline both competed in the men's discus throw with Tobias earning a PR with a 48.47m mark and Kline finishing behind him with a 45.18m mark of his own. 
  • Brian Evans, Aaron Robinson and Colin Rowe all competed in the 400m dash. Evans finished with a time of 48.12s, followed by Robinson (48.31s) and Rowe (48.39s). 
  • Rylan Flint posted a time of 15:10.07 in the men's 5k. 
  • Brady Snelson competed in the 1500m race finishing with a time of 3:59.68.
  • Kaithon McDonald took fourth place in the men's high jump reaching a final mark of 2.00m.
  • Gerald Norgbe participated as the sole competitor in the men's triple jump and ended with a mark of 14.27m. 
  • In the 800m race, Maxwell Myers finished with a time of 1:54.26 followed by freshman Peter Capozzoli's 1:59.48.

"There were a lot of great highlights coming out of this weekend. This is something we can build on in the next few weeks heading into championship season."

Maryland will return to action next Friday, May 7, at Penn State's Jim Thorpe Invitational.
