DURHAM, N.C. -- The Maryland women's lacrosse team battled back from down 13-7, scoring five goals in a row to end the game, but ultimately dropped a heartbreaker to No. 7 Duke, 13-12 in the NCAA Tournament Second Round.
Down 13-12, Maryland forced a Duke turnover to get the ball back with 25 seconds left where
Libby May had a shot saved with a second left that would've tied the game. May led the Terps with a career-best six points in the contest (four goals, two assists), while her sister Catie had five points (two goals, three assists).Â

Lizzie Colson had one of the best games of her career, picking up six groundballs and causing five turnovers, four of each in the first half. Colson finished her Maryland career with 159 groundballs and 106 caused turnovers, the fourth-most in program history. The Big Ten Defender of the Year's 49 caused turnovers this season are the second-most in program history, only trailing Taylor Cummings' 52 in 2016. Her 324 career draw controls are the third-most in program history.
The Terps scored the first goal of the day on a
Libby May assist to
Brindi Griffin. After going down 7-4, Maryland scored two straight with goals from both May sisters to make the score 7-6. Duke then went on a 6-1 run spanning the end of the first half and beginning of the second half to take a 13-7 lead with 20:45 left.Â
Maryland held Duke scoreless for the rest of the game, netting the final five goals, two from
Libby May, one from
Catie May, one from
Grace Griffin and
Hannah Leubecker's free position to make it a one goal game with 1:28 left to make it a one goal game.
The Terps finish the season 10-7, making their 31st straight NCAA Tournament.Â
