Terrapins Welcome Graduate Transfer Julianna Tornetta

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland field hockey head coach Missy Meharg welcomes All-American attacking midfielder Julianna Tornetta to the roster for the 2021 fall season. Tornetta played her first three seasons at Princeton.
Tornetta will come to College Park to use her final year of eligibility while working on her Masters in Business and Management from the Smith School of Business.
Tornetta, a native of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., was recently invited to compete with the USA Women's National Squad this spring and just returned from Belgium and England competing in the FIH Hockey Pro League.
Tornetta was named an NFHCA All-American in both the 2019 and 2018 seasons at Princeton. She was also named to the NFHCA All-Tournament Team in both of those seasons as she helped the Tigers to back-to-back Final Fours and an appearance in the national title game.
"On behalf of the Maryland Department of Athletics and the Smith School of Business, we welcome you and your family to College Park, Julianna," Meharg said. "What an honor to have such a dynamic, skillful and mature student athlete join our team after such an illustrious career with Princeton. Huge congrats on being named to Team USA and competing in your inaugural HPL match. Hockey Terps around the world are behind you."
Tornetta earned All-Ivy League First Team honors in all three seasons at Princeton. She started in all 60 games of her career at Princeton, tallying 18 goals and 33 assists in three seasons.
"The team, coaches and atmosphere of the school in general seems like an incredible place to spend the extra year of field hockey that COVID has given me, and I'm extremely excited to continue my education at the Smith School of Business," Tornetta said.
