Throughout the summer and fall, umterps.com will profile a different member of the Maryland women's soccer team leading up to the 2021 season. This week we'll get to know Milan Pierre-Jerome, a rising sophomore defender from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Pierre-Jerome appeared in nine games last spring with three starts for the Terps and represented the Haiti National Team in u17 and u20 World Cup qualifiers and Olympic qualifier.
What was your favorite moment from last season?
My favorite moment from last season would definitely have to be being able to play in my first collegiate soccer game after 14 months of not being able to play due to an injury. On top of that I was playing in the Capital One Field which was definitely unforgettable. I was extremely proud of myself as well as very emotional because of how much I fought to get back on that field.
What are your goals for next season?
First, to become a better player individually in any position I am put in. Ever since I was little I have always been put in multiple positions, so I want to be able to adjust easily at any given time no matter where I am put. In addition, another goal is to be able be a part of winning the Big Ten Tournament. This team is capable of anything we put our mind to and it is definitely possible to accomplish this goal together.
What attracted you to the University of Maryland?
The culture of this team was what attracted me to UMD the most. As a player who came into Maryland later into the school year, I wasn't worried because I knew how strong this team's bond was. We are one family. No matter where each of us are from, we move as one and this was something I have always seen from day one.
If you could play another sport at Maryland what would it be?
If I could play another sport at Maryland, it would be track. I ran the 400 when I was much younger, which is why I would choose track.
What is your favorite memory from playing soccer?Â
My favorite memory from playing soccer would have to be scoring my first goal for Haiti against Mexico in the under 17 World Cup qualifiers. I was able to do it in my home state while my parents were watching and to see their faces light up made this memory one I will never forget.
Favorite class you've taken at Maryland so far?
Definitely business. My goal is to be an extremely successful business owner when I am older, which made this class even more interesting to me. To be able to learn about the career path I'd like to take from an amazing professor was definitely a highlight for me this year.
Are you a good cook, what's your favorite thing to make?
I'm pretty good at cooking. My favorite thing to make would have to be barbecue chicken, sweet potatoes, and cornbread.
What is your favorite thing about yourself?
I always try to find the good in both people and experiences. I'm someone that always wants to try to see the good in people and things no matter the circumstances.
What is the best vacation you have ever been on?
Nassau, Bahamas
If you could live anywhere, where would you live?
California
What has been the most impactful lesson learned or discovery you made about yourself during the pandemic?
The most impactful lesson I have learned about myself is being able to control the controllables. The pandemic was something I could not control, but being able to stay in shape and be ready when my name is called are things I definitely could control.
What's something most people like but you don't understand?
Guacamole. I can't stand the taste of avocado in anything I eat. Guacamole on chips or avocado toast are both things I could never eat.
