COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The Maryland volleyball program released its 2021 non-conference schedule on Wednesday, head coach Adam Hughes and his staff announced.
The season officially begins on August 27 as the team welcomes Virginia to XFINITY Center Pavilion for the beginning of the Maryland Invite. On August 28, the Terps have their first doubleheader of the year as they face Central Connecticut State before taking on Hofstra later in the day.
Two consecutive road trips follow the Maryland Invite, first in Philadelphia and then in Baltimore. The Temple Invite, hosted by the Owls with attendance from Iona and Long Island University, takes place on Sept. 3 and 4. Then the Terps take a trip up the Beltway to UMBC where the squad will face Quinnipiac, Howard, and the host Retrievers.
Finally, Maryland returns to College Park for the Maryland Challenge, the team's final tune-up before the conference season. The weekend will feature Maryland battling Columbia, Akron, and Stony Brook. For a full look at the Terps schedule check HERE.
Following that action the Terps will have 20 Big Ten matches to close out the 2021 regular season starting in late September. While the non-conference slate has the Terps facing two 2020-21 NCAA Tournament Qualifiers (UMBC and LIU) the conference portion will feature six qualifiers that the team faces a combined nine times.
The Big Ten released its 2021 conference schedule earlier this year which can be found HERE. On August 11 the conference's flagship network announce that the Terps will be making two appearnces on Big Ten Network this season, first on Sept. 29 against Penn State and again Oct. 20 versus Rutgers.
Fans will get their first chance to watch live Terps volleyball on August 21 as the program hosts its annual Red-White Scrimmage. The scrimmage will begin at 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Season tickets, and individual tickets for all home events, can be purchased HERE.
Last season the team went 5-15 as they played a shortened, strictly conference schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The squad returns key production from the likes of Rainelle Jones and Cara Lewis plus the exciting additions of seven newcomers and new assistant coach Becca Acevedo.
