COLLEGE PARK, MD - The seventh-ranked Maryland field hockey squad (4-1) will open Big Ten play with a matchup vs. No. 8 Penn State (5-0) Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
Admission is free to Saturday's contest and parking is open. Fan are asked to please read all posted parking signage in the lots around the Complex.
Saturday's matchup will be streamed on

Preseason honors
- Fifth-year seniors Brooke DeBerdine and Julianna Tornetta and freshman Hope Rose of the Maryland field hockey squad were named to the Big Ten's Players to Watch List.
- All three Terrapins were named to the US National Team roster this summer, along with former Terps Linnea Gonzales, Kelee Lepage and Carrie Hanks.
- DeBerdine, who earned NFHCA All-America honors this past spring, was voted team captain for the second straight season. She also earned First Team All-Big Ten honors this past spring.
- Tornetta, a graduate transfer from Princeton, and Rose are newcomers to the Terrapins' roster. Tornetta earned NFHCA All-America honors at Princeton in the 2019 and 2018 seasons. She helped the Tigers to back-to-back Final Four appearances and an appearance in the national title game. She tallied 18 goals and 33 assists in her career as a Tiger.
- Rose, an incoming freshman from Dauphin, Pa., earned MAX Field Hockey All-America honors. She scored 233 career goals in her high school career.

- Fifth-year seniors Brooke DeBerdine and Kyler Greenwalt of the Maryland field hockey squad were voted team captain and vice captain, respectively, by their teammates for the fall 2021 season.
- DeBerdine, who earned NFHCA All-America honors this past spring, served as the team's captain for the spring 2021 season.
- Greenwalt earned back-to-back Big Ten Sportsmanship Awards in the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

- Voted National Coach of the Year an unprecedented nine times, head coach Missy Meharg has exemplified the tradition of excellence Maryland field hockey has become known for, a program with eight National Championships, 18 Final Fours and 26 conference championships - solidifying the Terrapins' position among the top programs in the nation.
- Now in her 34th season, Meharg has earned a record of 594-150-9 (.795). She has more wins than any coach at Maryland in any sport.
