Maryland-Saint Louis: The Series
- Maryland and Saint Louis have only met once before with the Terps earning a 74-66 victory over the Billikens in the 1994 NCAA Tournament at the Kansas Coliseum.
- Joe Smith led Maryland with 29 points and 15 rebounds in the NCAA Tournament meeting.
- Maryland head coach Kevin Willard is 1-1 all-time against Saint Louis with both games coming during his tenure at Seton Hall.
No Sophomore Slump For Reese
- After a relatively quiet opening night with seven points and seven rebounds against Niagara, Julian Reese has shown fans he can be a dominant player for the Terps after tying his career-high with 19 points against both Western Carolina and Binghamton. Against the Catamounts, he also posted his first career double-double with a career-high 12 rebounds.
- Nationally, Reese ranks 16th nationally (4th in the Big Ten) with a 78.3 field goal percentage (18-of-23).
- Reese leads the Terps in scoring (15.0 ppg) and in rebounding (8.7 rpg).
Recapping the Binghamton Win
- For the first time in over a decade, the Terps won three consecutive games by at least 20 points as Maryland topped Binghamton (2-1) 76-52 on Tuesday night in XFINITY Center.
- Maryland got off to a fast start, scoring the first eight points of the game, and led by as many as 25 in the opening half.
- Three Terps scored in double figures in a balanced offensive attack. Julian Reese followed up his career-night against Western Carolina with a 19-point, seven-rebound effort. Hakim Hart shot 5-of-10 from the field for 13 points and added eight boards. Donta Scott continued to hold the steady veteran presence with a 10-point, nine-rebound effort.
- The Terps led by 21 points at halftime, 44-23, for their largest lead at intermission in nearly three seasons. The last time Maryland led by as many at the half was a 42-21 lead over Marquette on Dec. 1, 2019.
Scott Nearing 1,000 Points; Eclipses 500 Boards
- Donta Scott went over the 500 rebound mark in the win over Western Carolina and now has 514 for his career. He enters the Binghamton game with 961 career points.
- Scott is looking to become the 17th Terp since 1995 to reach the 1,000-point, 500-rebound milestone. Darryl Morsell (1,090 points / 510 rebounds / 2018-21) and Anthony Cowan (1,881 points / 508 rebounds / 2017-20) are the most recent to do so.
- Scott was one of 20 players named to the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Watch List as announced by the Basketball Hall of Fame in late October.
- This is Scott's second year on the watch list after also garnering the honor last season. He joins Jalen Smith (2019-20) and Jake Layman (2014-15) as Terps to be recognized.
- Scott ranked as the No. 49 overall player nationally last season. He has played in 97 career games.
Fun News & Notes
- 3-0 FOR 9TH STRAIGHT SEASON - Maryland improved to 3-0 to start a season for the ninth consecutive year. The last time the Terps did not start 3-0 was a 77-68 loss to UConn in the 2013-14 season opener.
- NOVEMBER REIGN - Maryland is 68-13 in November games dating back to 2010-11.
- BACK-TO-BACK-BACK 20 PIECES - With the victory over Binghamton, Maryland picked up three-consecutive 20+ point wins for the first time since 2010-11. In that previous stretch, the Terps beat NJIT (89-50), North Florida (85-62) and Colgate (95-40) from a span of Dec. 22, 2010-Jan. 4, 2011. The last time the Terps won the first three games of a season by 20-plus points was in 2009-10, when they actually won their first four games of the season by that margin. Maryland beat Charleston Southern (89-51), Fairfield (71-42), New Hampshire (82-55), Chaminade (79-51) from Nov. 13-23, 2009.
- DEFENSE GENERATES OFFENSE - Maryland is forcing 14.7 turnovers per game which has translated to 19.3 points off turnovers. Just under 27 percent of the Terps offense has been generated off turnovers.
- YOUNG THROWING A BLOCK PARTY - A point guard with a pair of blocks in a game is in general a rarity. To lead the team in blocked shots after two games is more so. For Jahmir Young, he is the first Terp guard since Sean Mosely in 2011-12 to block four shots in the team's first two games. Current NBA guards Kevin Huerter (2016-17) and Aaron Wiggins (2019-20) are tied with Young as they also had four blocks in three games (Young did not block a shot against Binghamton).
- MAKING POSITIVE CONTRIBUTIONS - Hakim Hart leads the Terps with an outstanding +81 rating through two games. Donta Scott is +66, while Julian Reese is +60. The trio are the top players in terms of +/- early in the season. The trio along with fellow starters Jahmir Young and Don Carey are +32 as a line-up on the year.
