COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Maryland baseball team welcomes the UMBC Retrievers to College Park for what is the Terps first home game of the season. The game will be streamed live on B1G+ and the Maryland Baseball Network.

UMBC STORYLINES
The Rotation
  • Maryland head coach Rob Vaughn has many different options for a midweek starter, as Logan Ott, Sean Heine, Andrew Johnson, and Ryan Van Buren all figure to start a midweek game at some point in the season.
  • Nick Dean lived up to the preseason hype as he dominated the Baylor on Friday, February 18th, to the tune of seven shutout innings with eight strikeouts and not allowing a runner to advance past second base.
  • Ryan Ramsey's second career start when smoothly as the junior pitched six innings and gave up just five runs and struck out three.
  • Jason Savacool pitched eight innings of two-run baseball on Sunday afternoon, earning the win and completing the sweep for Maryland.
Impact Starters
  • The Terps received a boost when starting centerfielder Chris "Bubba" Alleyne spurned signing with an MLB team and announcing his return to College Park for his fifth year of eligibility. This season, Alleyne is batting .182 with an OBP of .400.
  • Senior leader and All-Big Ten performer Maxwell Costes is batting .417 through the first three games of the season with five extra-base hits, including two deep home runs against the Baylor pitching staff
  • After a stellar freshman year where he batted .332 with seven home runs and 30 RBI's, Matt Shaw is back for the Terps. Over the weekend, Shaw terrorized the Bears, batting .538 with four runs scored, five RBIs, and two home runs.
Meet The Coaches
  • Fifth-year Head Coach Rob Vaughn signed a contract extension this past summer after the program reached its first regional since 2017. Vaughn is a career 96-82 as the coach of the Terps
  • Matt Swope and Anthony Papio return to the bench this year for Maryland, with Papio being named assistant coach this past summer. Mike Morrison joins the staff from Coastal Carolina, where won a national championship as a player in 2016 and where he spent the last two years as Director of Player Development and Scouting of the Chanticleers, as well as interim pitching coach. Former Maryland baseball player Tommy Gardiner joins the staff as Director of Player Development after spending the last four seasons playing under Vaughn, Swope, and Papio.
Scouting The Opponent
  • The Retrievers dropped its opening two contests of the year, 10-9 and 11-10 decisions to the Navy Midshipmen.
  • UMBC's team ERA heading into Wednesday's game is 8.69.
Series History
  • Wednesday meeting marks the 20th time the two schools have played each other with Maryland owning the series at 18-2.
  • This is the first time the two teams have played since 2017 when Maryland won 16-2.
