COLLEGE PARK, MD – The No. 22 Maryland baseball team took down the UMBC Retrievers. 13-7, on Tuesday afternoon at Bob 'Turtle' Smith Stadium. The Terps (17-3) played as the road team despite playing in their home stadium due to construction on UMBC's campus.
Kevin Keister was the catalyst for the Maryland offense, going 4-4 with three RBIs, three runs scored, and a walk. Keister was just a home run short of Maryland's first cycle in over 20 years.
The Terps opened the scoring after
Nick Lorusso's double in the second inning scored
Luke Shliger. The second inning was even strong for the Terps as
Bobby Zmarzlak homered while Keister and Shliger later tallied RBIs as well.
Up 4-3,
Troy Schreffler Jr. gunned down the would-be tying run at the plate, preserving the Terrapin lead. Maryland then put up a big sixth inning, scoring four runs, punctuated by a Lorusso RBI single.
Logan Ott started for Maryland, going 3.2 innings and allowing two runs.
Ryan Van Buren relieved Ott, going 2.2 innings and allowing just one earned run.
