COLLEGE PARK, MD — No. 3 Maryland women's lacrosse continued its unbeaten season on Wednesday evening with a 15-11 win over Penn at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. Sophomore attacker
Eloise Clevenger collected her first career hat trick, scoring three goals.
"We're happy that we pulled that one out, credit to Penn for continuing to fight back," said head coach
Cathy Reese. "Fortunate to come away with the win in tough conditions with some uncontrollables but we have some work to do before facing a very good James Madison team Saturday."
On a rainy, cold night in College Park, seven different Terrapins (8-0) found the back of the cage.
Hannah Leubecker recorded her fourth straight game with a hat trick — the sixth in the junior's last seven games. Her season-high five goals led the way for head coach
Cathy Reese's squad, followed by Clevenger's three.
Freshman
Jordyn Lipkin followed up her five-point performance against No. 12 Rutgers on Sunday with two goals. It was her fifth multi-goal game of the season.
Breaking Down The Action
- Maryland controlled the game early, putting the first three goals on the board. The Terrapins led 7-1 after the first quarter, with a pair of their scores coming off the stick of Leubecker.
- Penn scored three goals over three-minute span in the second quarter, which pulled it to within three. The Terps answered with a trio of their own goals and headed to halftime with an 11-5 advantage. Their 11 goals came on 18 shots.
- Leubecker netted her fourth goal early in the third quarter. That was the only score from either side over those 15 minutes.
- After Penn was scoreless for about 22 minutes, Keeley Block found the back of the cage early in the fourth. The Quakers added two more over a 20-second span and pulled to within four. The Terrapins added some insurance, but Penn wouldn't go away and kept Maryland as close as it could down to the final buzzer.
Rory Keeps Roaring
- Fifth-year transfer Aurora Cordingley's red-hot start continued, as the Johns Hopkins transfer scored two goals and added four assists.
- She now has 32 goals on the season.
Up Next
- Maryland has a quick turnaround after this midweek game. It hosts No. 21 James Madison on Saturday.
- It'll be the Dukes' (5-4) fourth contest against a Big Ten school this season. They've beaten Ohio State and lost to Penn State and Rutgers.
- The action will start at noon and air on Big Ten Plus.
