Maryland Takes Down Iowa in Six, 10-2

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The Maryland Softball program won its fourth consecutive Big Ten Conference game in run-rule fashion, taking down the Hawkeyes 10-2 in six innings Saturday afternoon at the Maryland Softball Stadium.
The Terps (17-15, 4-1 B1G) came out hot, putting three runs on two hits in their first outing in the bottom of the first. Maryland saw a single from Jaeda McFarland and Haley Ellefson, with McFarland and Mackense Greico scoring after a fielder's choice sent the two home.
Maryland put on another three in the very next inning, pushing the lead to 6-0. Kiley Goff singled to get on base, then scored on a wild pitch, while Megan Mikami and McFarland came back around after a double and single, respectively.
Iowa put up two of their own in the top of the fourth, but Maryland responded with 5 more runs over the next three innings, including McFarland's homer over right field. McFarland went 3-for-4 with a home run and tallies two RBIs. Haley Ellefson also went 3-for-4 on the day with two doubles and one RBI under her belt.
Junior pitcher Courtney Wyche pitched six full innings, allowing just two runs on five hits. Wyche struck out five Hawkeyes on the day, two in swinging fashion.
