PISCATAWAY, NJ — No. 17 Maryland baseball dominated the first game of its doubleheader against Rutgers, with the offense firing on all cylinders in a 16-8 win against the Scarlet Knights at Bainton Field.
Maryland's win is its 37th of the season. No Maryland baseball team has ever won more games in the regular season.
The Terps (37-9, 12-4 Big Ten) got started early, taking a 5-0 lead after two innings. Maryland hitters belted five home runs, two of which came from
Chris Alleyne. The fifth-year totaled five RBIs in the game. With 16 home runs on the season, Alleyne has the most dingers of anyone in the Big Ten.
In his first start since his
perfect game,
Ryan Ramsey pitched six innings and gave up just four hits. He earned the win, improving his record to 9-0 on the season.

- Maryland got on the board in the first inning, as Nick Lorusso singled home Luke Shliger to give the Terps an early 1-0 advantage.
- The Terps batted around in the second and put four more runs on the board. Bobby Zmarzlak scored on an RBI groundout by Shliger. Maryland soon went on a two-out rally, starting with Chris Alleyne floating an RBI single to the ride side and advancing to second on a throwing error. Lorusso drove Alleyne home with his second RBI single in as many innings, before Troy Schreffler Jr. scored Lorusso on an RBI single of his own. Maryland had a 5-0 lead after two innings.
- Matt Shaw blasted a two-run homer in the fourth inning, sending a bomb over the right-field scoreboard to make it 7-0.
- Alleyne and Schreffler went yard in the sixth inning, in which Maryland put up a three-spot and extended its lead to 10-0.
- Rutgers got on the board with a two-run homer in the sixth.
- Zmarzlak came home on a past ball and Lorusso drove in Ian Petrutz on a sacrifice fly in the seventh, putting the Terps ahead, 12-2.
