COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland baseball senior first baseman
Maxwell Costes has signed a free agent contract with the Baltimore Orioles following the MLB Draft.
Costes, a Baltimore native, slashed .298/.458/.560 for his career with 40 home runs, a mark good enough for second in program history. He was a two-time All-Big Ten selection, earning third-team honors in 2022 after batting .296 with 16 home runs and 52 RBIs.

A noted postseason performer, Costes was named to NCAA Regional All-Tournament teams in 2022 and 2021. In 2020, Costes was named a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper All-American in the shortened season after a torrid start that saw him finish with a slash line of .432/.620/.750
As a freshman in 2019, Costes burst onto the scene with 15 homers, 15 doubles and 49 RBIs en route to being named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and earning All-Big Ten First Team honors. He was named a freshman All-American.
Costes has previous connections to the Orioles. He played for the club's 2017 Senior Orioles RBI team that advanced to the RBI World Series.
Costes is the fourth Terp to move on to the professional ranks this offseason.
