COLLEGE PARK, Md. -Â Â The University of Maryland women's soccer team will kick off the 2022 season this week starting as they travel to Temple on Thursday night. Kickoff is set for 7 pm. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.

series history
- The Terps hold a 3-3-1 all-time record against Temple.
- The two teams most recently met in the 2021 season opener as the Terps hosted the Owls in College Park. Maryland came out with a 3-0 victory.Â
- This will be the second consecutive year in which Maryland opens up their season against Temple.Â
a new era
- Thursday night will mark the first game at the helm of the Terps program for Head Coach Meg Ryan Nemzer. Coach Ryan Nemzer comes to Maryland after spending the previous 14 seasons on the coaching staff at Rutgers.Â
- Katie Ely and Alex Ng will also be joining the Maryland staff this season. Ely has spent the previous seven seasons on the women's soccer staff at the University of Georgia, while Ng comes to Maryland after spending the past two seasons on the University of Richmond women's soccer staff.
- Coach Ryan Nemzer has also added Kenie Wright to the staff along with Justine Stoner. Wright will serve as the Director of Player Development, the first in the program's history, while Stoner will fill the director of operations position.
- Finally, Joe Nemzer rounds out the staff as the program's volunteer assistant coach. Joe brings more than a decade of soccer expertise with experience in both the professional and college ranks.Â
newcomers in college park
- Coach Nemzer and her staff welcome 19 new Terps to College Park this season, including 9 freshmen and 10 transfers.Â
- The 10 transfers are highlighted by a duo of West Virginia transfers, Juliana Lynch and Alina Stahl. Sydney Hopkins and Sofi Vinas have transferred coast to coast as they join the Terps this year. Hopkins will be coming from San Diego while Vinas will be coming from Oregon. Sydney Urban is one of four Power Five transfers the Terps will be gaining this year as she joins the program from Florida.Â
- Along with 10 transfers, the Terps will be adding nine freshmen to their roster.
big ten players to watch
- Malikae Dayes returns to Maryland for another season with the Terps as a Graduate Student. Dayes has played in 61 games, starting in 60 of them. Dayes logged a team high of 1652 minutes played in the 2021 season as a key component of the Maryland defensive line. She led the team to five shutouts last season. Â
- Mikayla Dayes, sister of Malikae, also makes the list as a returning offensive threat for the Terps. Mikayla led Maryland in points just a season ago with three goals and three assists. She has appeared in 73 games for Maryland, starting 59 of them. The Grad Student recorded the third-most minutes on the team a season ago with 1545.Â
- Juliana Lynch completes the Trio of Terps on the Players to Watch list. Lynch comes to Maryland after competing at West Virgina for her first two seasons. Lynch appeared in 51 games for the Mountaineers, notching 39 starts. She recorded three goals and one assist in her career with the Mountaineers. Lynch led the West Virginia defense to 14 shutouts during her time in the blue and gold.

2022Â SCHEDULE
- After a schedule of Spring competition, the Terps will be playing a full 17-game schedule, consisting of 7 non-conference games and 10 conference games.
- Maryland will have a six game homestand as non-conference play wraps up and Big Ten play begins.Â
- Big Ten play will begin on Friday September 16 when Maryland hosts Michigan.
