Terps Name 2022 Team Captains

College Park, MD -- Maryland field hockey has announced Emma DeBerdine, Bibi Donraadt and Danielle Van Rootselaar as team captains for the 2022 season, Coach Missy Meharg unveiled Tuesday.
DeBerdine enters her senior season after a tremendous summer that saw the Lancaster, Pennsylvania native earn a spot on the 2022-23 US National Team. The Midfielder also took home a bronze medal at the Uniphar 5 Nations Tournament in Dublin, Ireland. Last season, DeBerdine led the Terps with nine assists over 22 games.
"This is a very special team," DeBerdine said. "I am extremely grateful to be named captain to this squad and work with Dani, Bibi and the coaching staff to help lead this team to great things."
Donraadt earns captain honors after a storied four-year career with the Terps. In her four years with Maryland field hockey, Donraadt has compiled over 100 points, played in over 80 games and been twice named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team (2018, 2021).
"I am honored to have been chosen as one of the captains this year.," Donraadt said. "I will be there for the team to lead, support, inspire, and represent the 2022 terps."
Van Rootselaar has been named captain in her first year with the Terps. The Bilthoven, The Netherlands native comes to Maryland after three seasons at Brown. Van Rootselaar is a three-time All-Ivy League honoree, earning First Team honors in 2021 and 2018
"Being elected captain of the Maryland field hockey team as a graduate transfer is truly humbling," stated Van Rootselaar. "Having the trust of my teammates and coaches so quickly shows how special this program and team is. Couldn't be more excited to take the field with this team!"
