Terps Take On No.2 Northwestern in a Top-5 Matchup

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - No. 4 Maryland completes their road trip weekend against Big Ten opponent Northwestern after a thrilling 2-1 overtime over No.3 Iowa. The Terps will matchup with the reigning National Champion Wildcats on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1:00 p.m. The game will be available for streaming on B1G+.

series history
  • Friday's matchup with No. 3 Iowa was the 25th meeting between the Terps and Hawkeyes. Maryland now holds a 18-6-1 series advantage and a 6-3 record in Iowa City. With the win the Terps snapped a three-game Hawkeye win streak, dating back to the 2020 spring season.
  • Maryland's Sunday afternoon game will be the 30th matchup with the Wildcats. The Terps lead the series, holding a 18-11 overall record against Northwestern, and a 5-3 series advantage in Evanston, Ill. 
  • Both Maryland and Northwestern made the NCAA Semifinal in 2021, with Northwestern going on to win the National Championship.

Clutch Crouse
  • Graduate student Leah Crouse has been a playmaker in the clutch for the Terps, scoring a Big Ten leading four game winning goals through Maryland's first 10 games
  • Crouse scored two unassisted goals for the Terps in a 2-1 victory over no.12 Harvard and punched in the her fourth game winning goal of the season to lift Maryland to a Top-10 victory over No.8 Michigan in overtime.
  • Crouse has been a constant threat in attack, distributing three assists and scoring seven goals, including her four game-winners against Boston College, Harvard, Ohio State and Michigan. The Duke transfer has shown tremendous ability to create for others and continues to be a versatile piece for the Terp offense as she is currently averaging 1.70 points per game.
  • The Virginia Beach, Virginia native currently ranks no. 6 in goals per game (.70) and points per game (1.70) across the entire Big Ten Conference.

35 Years of Missy
  • Coach Missy Meharg enters her 35th season at the helm of the Terps, having led her squads to a record of 605-156-9 with a winning percentage of over 79 percent
  • The nine-time National Coach of the Year has amassed 19 Final Fours, 12 NCAA title game appearances and seven NCAA Championships over her tenure
  • This past season, Meharg became just the third Division I head coach to reach the 600-win mark. Her 605 wins are the most-ever by any Maryland coach in history across all sports
