COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Seven members of Maryland's No. 8 ranked field hockey program received All-Big Ten honors, as announced by the conference on Wednesday. Hope Rose, Rayne Wright, Alyssa Klebasko, Margot Lawn, Sammy Popper, Maura Verleg and Logan Anderson were all named.
Hope Rose and Rayne Wright were both named to the All-Big Ten First Team. This is Rose's first career selection to the First Team, earning a unanimous vote. She earned Second Team honors in her freshman and sophomore seasons, in addition to earning Big Ten Freshman of the Year back in 2021. Rose, a junior forward, has led the Terps in scoring all season, posting 12 goals and two assists in 18 games. She added her first career hat trick against Miami (OH), leading the Terps to a, 3-1, win.
Rayne Wright, a senior captain, has been an irreplaceable member of the Terps' back line all year. This recognition marks her first All-Big Ten Team honor. Starting in all 18 games, Wright helped shutdown some of the nation's best offensive players across the Big Ten and in highly ranked non-conference opponents.
Alyssa Klebasko, Margot Lawn, Sammy Popper and Maura Verleg each earned their first-career selection to the All-Big Ten Second Team. Klebasko, a freshman goalkeeper, has started in the majority of games for the Terps and collected Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors in two consecutive weeks. She ranks second in the conference in save percentage (.844) and goals-against average (.970).
Margot Lawn has played a critical role for the offense this season, tallying a career-best 23 points from seven goals and nine assists. The fifth year forward has added three game-winning goals on the year against Yale, No. 6 Virginia and Michigan State.
Sammy Popper, a graduate midfielder, has made a large impact on the pitch since transferring from Princeton. Although she is no stranger to conference awards, Popper collects her first Big Ten recognition in her first year in the conference. She has been a difference-maker in the midfield position, tallying seven goals and one assist this year.
Maura Verleg, a Big Ten Preseason Watch List honoree, adds All-Big Ten Second Team to her resume. The fifth year captain has been a consistent presence on the back line all season. Tallying nearly 1,000 minutes of action, Verleg helped the defense to five shutouts and held opponents to an average of only 11.7 shots per game.
Logan Anderson rounds out the conference honors for Maryland receiving the Big Ten's Sportsmanship Award for the second time in her career.
Maryland field hockey returns to action as they begin their pursuit of a third Big Ten Tournament Championship. The Terps will match up with the Hawkeyes in the first round on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 5 p.m., the game will be available live on B1G+.
