COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Each week during the 2023-2024 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.
This week's Terp of the Week goes to Julian Reese of the Maryland men's basketball team. Reese tied his career-high with 24 points and posted his fifth double-double of the season with 15 rebounds to help the Terps to an 81-75 overtime win over Penn State on Wednesday. The win was key as it improved the Terps to 1-1 in Big Ten play and 5-0 at home this season. Reese played 41 minutes and was 7-of-11 overall from the floor and 10-of-15 from the free throw line. Six of his season-high 15 rebounds were on the offensive glass. He also added two assists and a steal in the game. Reese scored 17 points in the second half going 4-of-5 from the field and 9-of-11 from the line as Maryland came back from a 30-28 deficit at halftime.
Reese's five double-doubles this season are tied for the ninth-most in Division I this year. The junior now has 12 double-doubles in his career. The 24 point, 15 rebound performance by Reese against Penn State was also the fourth 20-point, 10-rebound game of his career. The win extended Maryland's home-win streak to 16 games, which is the eighth-longest nationally and the third-longest among 'major' conference teams. The last time the Terps had a streak of 16 consecutive home wins occurred from Mar. 8, 2019-Feb. 18, 2020.
The Terrapins are back on the court on Tuesday, Nov. 12, as they welcome the Alcorn State Braves to the XFINITY Center. Tip-off will be at 7 PM, with the game airing on BTN and the Maryland Sports Radio Network.
