COLLEGE PARK, MD. - The University of Maryland softball team will head down south to Chapel Hill, N.C for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge this weekend. The Terps will kick off the weekend with a pair of games against Virginia and will conclude the weekend with a pair of games against North Carolina. THIS WEEK'S STORYLINES
scouting the foes
- Virginia opened up their 2023 season at the University of Houston Tournament with a record of 4-1, including victories over Lamar, Houston and Sam Houston State
- The Cavaliers finished the 2022 season with a 28-26 record and 13-11 record in conference play. Virginia's season came to an end in the National Invitational Softball Championship
- North Carolina also began their 2023 season in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The Tar Heels went 2-2 on the weekend with victories over California Baptist and BYU.

- This marks the first time the Terps have picked up a victory over a Top-3 team since 2017

fresh faces
- Maryland welcomes seven newcomers to the 2023 squad.
- Sammi Woods and Madison Runyan look to make an immediate impact for the Terps in the middle infield positions. Gracelyn Solarz and Sydney Lewis will also look to contribute to the team's success in the infield.
- Nicole Bodeux, Keria Bucher, Genevieve Ebaugh all come to Maryland after strong prep career's on the mound. The trio of new Terps will be mixed in with an experienced pitching rotation led by Courtney Wyche and Trinity Schlotterbeck.
