No. 11 Terps Dominate Villanova In 15-6 Win

VILLANOVA, PA No. 11 Maryland women's lacrosse used a dominant second quarter to get past Villanova, 15-6, on Saturday afternoon at Villanova Stadium. Six Terrapins scored as they won their second straight game and improved to 5-3 on the season.

Senior Shaylan Ahearn led the way for Maryland, collecting the second hat trick of her career as well as winning 10 draw controls. Libby May scored three times as well. Freshman Kori Edmondson, making her second career start, had three goals and an assist. It was Edmondson's third straight game with a hat-trick.

Sophomore Jordyn Lipkin totaled three points as well, scoring twice and adding an assist. Sophomore Natalie Pansini scored two goals, the first multi-goal game of her career. 

Villanova scored just once during the second quarter, which came during its final seconds, and was scoreless throughout the third.


Maryland outshot the Wildcats (5-2), 39-16.

Breaking Down The Action

  • Ahearn opened the scoring, striking off an assist from Edmondson during the second minute. Villanova had an answer, and then Edmondson scored twice. 
  • Lipkin added her eighth goal of the season and Ahearn tallied her third point of the game during the final seconds of the first quarter as Maryland took a 5-2 lead.
  • The Terps scored the next five goals after that, holding Villanova scoreless until the last five seconds of the second quarter as they took a 9-3 advantage to halftime. They held the Wildcats to only six shots during the first 30 minutes.
  • Maryland scored three times in the third quarter, opening up a 12-3 lead as the defense continued shutting down Villanova.
  • Pansini added a goal late in the fourth quarter, marking the first multi-goal game of the sophomore's career.

Multi-Terps Update
  • Ahearn (three goals, one assist) recorded the second hat trick of her career, after scoring three against Rutgers on April 18, 2021. It was her eighth game with multiple goals and second of the season.  
  • May (three goals) had her sixth game this season with multiple goals and now has 36 career games with two or more goals in 52 career games as a Terp. It was also her 21st career hat trick. 
  • Edmondson (three goals, one assist) had her third career game with multiple points. 
  • Lipkin (two goals, one assist) scored multiple goals for the third time in her first eight games as a Terp.
  • Pansini (two goals) scored multiple goals for the first time in her career.
Series With The Wildcats
  • Saturday's contest was Maryland's second meeting with the Wildcats in program history, and its first time visiting them in Pennsylvania.
  • The Terps also defeated Villanova, 19-7, last season in the first ever women's lacrosse game to be played at Jones-Hill House.

  • 2: Ahearn had the second hat trick of her career.
