COLLEGE PARK, MD - No. 11 Maryland will welcome local rival Georgetown on Wednesday, March 15 in College Park. The Terps, looking to make it three wins in a row, will face the Hoyas at 7:00 p.m. on Big Ten Plus. 

 
Where we are
  • The Terps are coming off a 15-6 win at Villanova this past weekend. Six Terrapins scored led by Shaylan Ahearn, who collected the second hat trick of her career as well as winning 10 draw controls. Ahearn has 22 draw controls over the last two games and now stands ninth in the nation with 56 on the season.
  • Freshman Kori Edmondson has been on fire of late, scoring 10 goals in the last three games, with hat-tricks in each of them. The No. 1 freshman in the country earned starts in the last two games.
  • Libby May was named the IWLCA Offensive National Player of the Week after scoring six goals in back-to-back games against Drexel and No. 7 Florida. She was also named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, while Shaylan Ahearn was named the Big Ten Midfeilder of the Week after winning 20 draw controls over the two games.

50th Season of maryland women's lacrosse
  • The 2023 season will be the 50th season of Maryland women's lacrosse, a program that has been the most successful in the entire sport since its start.
  •  Maryland has won 15 national championships and 31 conference championships. The Terps have participated in 28 Final Fours, including 12 of the last 13 and have won 12 of the last 28 national championships, including seven-straight from 1995-2001. Maryland has an all-time program record of 764-153-3 through 49 seasons.

  • Maryland is 161-6 at home under head coach Cathy Reese, with nine undefeated home campaigns in the last 11 seasons (2013, '14, '15, '16, '17, '18, '19, '21).
  • Last time the Terps played in SECU Stadium (2019), Maryland went 11-0, including wins over No. 3 North Carolina, No. 4 Syracuse, No. 7 Michigan and No. 8 Penn.
  • The Terps have never lost a conference home game under Reese, going undefeated in each of her 16 seasons.

  • In the game against Drexel, Shaylan Ahearn became only the sixth Terp in program history to surpass the 200 career draw control mark with 14. In the Terps game at #7 Florida, Ahearn past Dana Dobbie (2007-08) to move into fifth all-time in career draw controls at Maryland. Ahearn, who tallied 22 draw controls this past week, is now 16 draw controls behind Karri Ellen Johnson (2008-12) for fourth all-time in program history.
  • Ahearn tallied 115 draw controls last season, the eighth-most in a single season in program history.
  • Another Terp, Abby Bosco, also recorded her 200th career draw control in Maryland's last game at Villanova, now standing at 202 in her career. 121 of those have come as a Terp, 81 at Penn, where she played from 2018-21.

  • Reese and the Terps added one of the top transfers out of the portal for the 2023 season in 2022 Ivy League Defender of the Year Marge Donovan. The grad student was the Ivy League Defender of the Year, a Third Team IWLCA All-American, a First-Team All-Ivy selection and the Ivy League Tournament Most Outstanding Player in 2022 as she graduated as Princeton's all-time leader in career draw controls (214) and draws in a season (112 in 2022).
  • Maryland also welcomes the nation's top freshmen class, highlighted by the No. 1 recruit in the 2022 Class, midfielder Kori Edmondson. The class also features top-10 ranked signees Jaylen Rosga and Maggie Weisman.

  • Head Coach Cathy Reese enters her 17th season at the helm of Maryland women's lacrosse. The winningest coach in program history, Reese is 307-37 as head coach and has led the Terps to five National Championships, 12 Final Fours and 22 Conference Championships.
  • Maryland is 161-6 at home under Reese, with nine undefeated home campaigns in the last 11 seasons (2013, '14, '15, '16, '17, '18, '19, '21).

  • The Terps lead the all-time series against Georgetown, 23-4 and has won 12 straight against the Hoyas, winning every time against them under head coach Cathy Reese.
  • Maryland won at Georgetown, 15-3, last season behind eight points from Aurora CordingleyLibby May scored three goals for her fifth hat trick of the season. She added an assists for four points.  Eloise Clevenger scored a pair of goals for her fourth multi-goal games this season. 
  • This will be the Terps and Hoyas first meeting in College Park since 2018, where the Terps beat Georgetown 17-5 behind four goals from Kali Hartshorn and Caroline Steele.
