Ruppel, Koras Earn Big Ten Weekly Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Two Terps earned Big Ten weekly honors on Tuesday as Jack Koras was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week while Brian Ruppel was selected as both the Big Ten Specialist and Freshman of the Week.
Koras notched a team-high four goals in No. 3 Maryland's thrilling and dramatic 14-13 overtime victory over No. 1 and previously undefeated Virginia on Saturday. All of his goals came in the second half as Maryland came back from a 6-4 halftime deficit. It marks the third consecutive game that Koras has tallied four points. He also tallied a ground ball.
Ruppel made a career-high 15 saves in a game where Maryland needed every single one of them. The freshman's massive game was highlighted by a series of three consecutive highlight-reel saves in overtime to set up Daniel Kelly's eventual game-winner on the ensuing possession.
Koras' weekly honor is the first of his career. Ruppel picks up his second-ever Specialist of the Week award and first Freshman of the Week.
Koras joins Daniel Kelly as the second Terp this year to be named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. Ruppel is also the second Maryland freshman to be recognized, joinign Braden Erksa.
Maryland is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Penn State at SECU Stadium at 5 pm.
