The Matchup

Maryland baseball returns home to Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium as the Terps meet the Georgetown Hoyas in a midweek matchup. Tuesday's game will be available on B1G+ and the Maryland Baseball Network.
Tuesday's game will resume a regional battle between the Terps and the Hoyas who have only faced off three-times since 2004. Maryland leads the all-time series 61-22 and claimed the last matchup with a 19-1 victory in College Park last season.
The Hoyas currently sit 14-9 after a 3-1 week which saw the Hoyas sweep Dayton after dropping a competitive midweek contest ,6-4, to then-No. 8 Virginia.
Graduate student Ubaldo Lopez leads the Hoyas after a impressive weekend which saw him hit a home run in each contest while batting .636 with a 1.455 slugging percentage over the series sweep of Dayton.

So Far This Season

Maryland enters the week after claiming two-of-three against UCF in Orlando, Fla. The Terps dropped the Friday night matchup but scored 24 runs over the next two games and took the series with an 8-6 victory on Sunday.
The Terps took two-of-three against UAlbany at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium. Nick Lorusso was a consistent force for the Terps at the plate, batting .455 with three doubles and five RBI over the weekend.
Maryland claimed its first series sweep of the 2023 campaign, taking all three games against Maine. The series was highlighted by a 25 run explosion on Friday night that included back-to-back home runs from Nick Lorusso and Matt Shaw in both the first and third inning.
Maryland used 12 hits, including a three RBI triple from Matt Woods, to overwhelm the UMBC Retrievers in a 12-6 victory in College Park on Tuesday, March 7.
The Terps traveled to the Cambria Collegiate Classic, played at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn March 3-5. Maryland suffered losses to No. 4 Ole Miss, No. 7 Vanderbilt and Hawaii.
Maryland claimed an 8-3 victory over Delaware in a midweek matchup. Ian Petrutz came away with his fifth home run in his first eight games while Elijah Lambros smashed a two-run blast for his third home run as a Terp.
Maryland traveled to Oxford, Mississipi taking 1-of-3 against the No. 4 Ole Miss Rebels in a weekend series. Ian Petrutz and Jason Savacool led the Terps to a Friday night victory as Petrutz went 3-for-4 with his second grand slam of the season, two runs scored and four RBI. Savacool was dynamite on the mound striking out nine Ole Miss hitters in seven innings of work, giving up just one earned run and two runs overall.
The Terps opened 2023 with a series victory over South Florida in Tampa. The weekend was highlighted by three consecutive games with a grand slam for Maryland.

Popular in the preseason

Maryland entered the 2023 season as a consensus top-25 program and the No. 13 team in the country according to D1Baseball.
Three Terps, Jason Savacool, Matt Shaw and Luke Shliger each earned preseason All American honors. The trio received recognition from D1Baseball, Perfect Game and Collegiate Baseball News. Shaw was also named a preseason All-American by Baseball America.
Juniors Luke Shliger (No. 1), Matt Shaw (No. 3) and Jason Savacool (No. 10) were each ranked in the Top-10 for their position by D1Baseball heading into the 2023 campaign.
Maryland comes into 2023 fresh off winning its first-ever Big Ten Championship in 2022 and first conference title in more than a half-century since the Terps won the ACC in 1971. Overall, it was Maryland's fifth conference crown.
The Terps return 15 players from last year's squad including six All-Big Ten honorees (Jason Savacool, Nick Lorusso, Matt Shaw, Kevin Keister, Luke Shliger, and Nick Dean).
Maryland welcomes incoming transfers Matt Woods (Bryant), Elijah Lambros (South Carolina), Tommy Kane (Rowan), Eddie Hacopian (Cypress College) and Nate Haberthier (Ohio State), who all figure to make an immediate impact in College Park this season.

Meet the Coaches

Sixth-year Head Coach Rob Vaughn returns as skipper after last season's Big Ten Championship and receiving conference Coach of the Year honors. Vaughn is a career 152-104 (.595) as the Head Coach of the Terps.
Matt Swope and Anthony Papio return to the bench this year for Maryland, they bring a wealth of experience to the dugout as both Terrapin baseball alumni and veteran coaches on staff.
Mike Morrison returns as assistant for his second season with the Terps. Morrison joined the staff from Coastal Carolina, where won a national championship as a player in 2016 and spent two years as Director of Player Development and Scouting of the Chanticleers, as well as interim pitching coach.
Former Maryland baseball player Tommy Gardiner is back with the staff and serves as Director of Player Development after spending four seasons playing under Vaughn, Swope, and Papio.
