COLLEGE PARK, MD. - The University of Maryland softball team will being a nine game homestand on Wednesday night with a midweek matchup against UMBC. First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm. The game will be streamed on B1G+. April 19, 2023 | 6:00 pm EDT
THIS WEEK'S STORYLINES
scouting the foes
- UMBC has opened up its 2023 season with a 17-12 overall record and 9-2 in AEC play.
- The Golden Retrievers are coming off of a road series win over Albany, 2-1. UMBC opened up AEC play with a six game win streak, sweeping two consecutive series.
- The Terps and Golden Retrievers last met in the 2022 season in which UMBC came out with a 6-4 win.

- The Terps are off to their best start in program history an overall record of 29-13
- Maryland has 24 home runs on the season so far, already surpassing their homerun total from the 2022 season of 17. Amelia Lech has been powering the offense with 12 of those home runs.
- Freshman pitcher Keira Bucher currently leads the nation in saves with 11 on the season. She is one save away from breaking the Big Ten all-time record.

looking back to last weekend
- The Terps are coming off of a road series victory over Iowa. Maryland won both games in Friday's doubleheader before dropping the series finale on Saturday.
- Jaeda McFarland led the way for the Terps at the plate last week with an average of .375, recording three hits, two runs and an RBI.
- Maryland enters the Penn State weekend series with a 6-8 record in conference play after picking up a series win over Iowa.

- Maryland welcomes seven newcomers to the 2023 squad.
- Sammi Woods and Madison Runyan look to make an immediate impact for the Terps in the middle infield positions. Gracelyn Solarz and Sydney Lewis will also look to contribute to the team's success in the infield.
- Nicole Bodeux, Keria Bucher, Genevieve Ebaugh all come to Maryland after strong prep career's on the mound. The trio of new Terps will be mixed in with an experienced pitching rotation led by Courtney Wyche and Trinity Schlotterbeck.
