Mackova Named Big Ten All-Tournament Team as Maryland Finishes Fourth at Big Ten Championship

PITTSBURGH, PA - The No. 33-ranked Maryland women's golf team posted +31 over par as a team at the Big Ten Championship this weekend, finishing in fourth place out of 14 teams competing. No. 30-ranked junior Patricie Mackova led the Terps, finishing in a three-way tie for sixth after posting a score of 217 (72-70 -75), four strokes over par. This marks her eighth top-10 finish of the 2022-23 season. Mackova was also named to the All-Championship Team for finishing in the top six during the Conference Championship for the second year in a row.

The Team
Sophomore Panassaya Somchit finished in a four-way tie for 33rd, posting a score of  218 72-74-72) (+5).

Senior Maria Vittoria Corbi finished in a three-way tie for 51st, posting a score of 222 (75-68-79) (+9).

Senior Angela Garvin posted 229 (77-75-77), which was 16 over par to finish in a five-way tie for 40th.

Junior Karla Elena Vázquez Setzer finished in a two-way tie for 45th, posting a 230 (75-77-78) (+17).

Freshman Nicha Kanpai, ranked 72nd nationally, also posted a score of 232 (75-79-78), to finish in a five-way tie for 52nd in her Big Ten Championship debut.

Over the three-day tournament (April 21-23), Maryland played the par-71 layout designed by the late Seth Raynor and Charles Banks and restored in 2001 by Brian Sliva. The club hosted the 2002 Curtis Club, most recently the Senior Players in 2014, and multiple high-level amateur events, including the 2022 Big Ten Women's Golf Championship.

Inclement weather delayed the start of the second round by just under an hour, but that didn't stop Maryland from having three student-athletes finish in the top 10.

From the Coaches' Eye - Hovland's Analysis…
"We're disappointed in our performance today (during the final round) and our inability to gain any momentum throughout the round," head coach Kelly Hovland said. "We need to have a short memory and start our preparation for NCAA regionals."

Maryland entered the final round within four shots of the leaders after closing out the first and second rounds in solo third and in a tie for third, respectively.

By The Numbers
4.44 - Patricie Mackova was second in the field in par-five score with a stroke average of 4.44 (-5).
